Forest Research Institue (FRI) celebrated 68th Van Mahotsav, near Centenary Gate on Lawrie Road. Dr. S.C. Gairola, Director General, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Savita, Director, FRI along with officials from FRI and ICFRE participated and graced the occasion. An area of 1.2 ha in three patches along the road was planted. 550 flowring ornamental trees like Peela Amaltas (Cassia gluca), Jacranda (Jacranda mimosiflolia), Gulmohar (Delonix regia), Chandini (Tabernaemontana divaricata) etc. were planted during Van Mahotsav
Dr. S.C. Gairola, speaking on the occasion said that the culture of tree plantation has to be inculcated in the minds of children, students and youngsters, so that the custom of planting trees in cities and urban permises would transmit to future generations to come.
Dr. Savita also planted and encouraged others to plant more and more trees in the vicinity of their households.
